SOUTH BEND — Dog and cat owners are being warned about the risks of a raw meat diet.

A team of researchers in the Netherlands say these products may contain harmful bacteria and parasites.

Their tests showed that a large percentage of commercial raw meat products were contaminated with listeria, E. coli and salmonella.

This bacteria may pose a risk to animal and human health.

The study was led by researchers at Utrecht University and published in Vet Record. You can find more information at veterinaryrecord.bmj.com/content/182/2/50
