Warsaw Sports Wrap: Jan. 6
Wrestling
The Warsaw wrestling team had several highlights Saturday despite going 0-4 as a team in the West Noble Super Duals.
The trio of Isaiah Owens, Brock Hueber and Grayson Drudge each went 3-1 on the day to lead the Tigers.
Sophomore Owens bounced back from a first-round loss to win twice by pins and also by a 16-10 decision at 106 pounds.
Sophomore Hueber notched a pair of wins after earning a victory by forfeit at 195.
Drudge, a junior, won twice by forfeits before topped Noah Alexander of NorthWood 15-7 at 182 pounds.
The trio of freshman Brandon Estepp, senior Dillon Estepp and junior Jose Grimmett each went 2-2 on the day.
Warsaw will host Goshen Thursday with JV matches starting at 6:45 p.m. in the Tiger Den.
Boys Swimming
The Warsaw boys swim team wrapped up regular-season league action with a 107-76 Northern Lakes Conference loss at Concord.
Evan Borchers won the 100 fly in a time of 56.00 and Grant Knight claimed top honors in the 100 breaststroke race in a time of 1:00.42 to lead the Tigers.
Borchers also placed second in the 200 freestyle and Knight was second in the 200 IM.
Alex Cook placed second in both the 50 and 100 freestyle races for the Tigers. Also placing second were Iam Deming in the 100 fly and Zach LaLonde in the 100 backstroke.
The Tigers also were second in all three relay races.
Warsaw, which is now 6-3 overall and 4-3 in the NLC, returns to action on Jan. 16 at Culver Academy
Girls Swimming
The Warsaw girls swim team dropped a 122-64 final at Concord in their conference regular-season finale.
Delaney Wihebrink was the lone winner for the Warsaw ladies with a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke race in a time of 1:09.74. She also placed second in the 200 IM.
Also placing second for Warsaw were Laurel Moeller in the 200 freestyle, Morgan Bruner in the 50 freestyle, Olivia Herman in the 100 freestyle and Lauren Kuhn in the 100 backstroke.
The ladies also took second in the 200 medley relay race and the 200 free relay event.
Warsaw goes to 6-2 overall and finishes at 5-2 in NLC action. The ladies will compete in the NLC Meet at Northridge Thursday and Saturday.
