Mary Elizabeth Koeppel, 97, of Syracuse, Ind. passed away at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Syracuse. She was born on Sept. 28, 1920 in Howe, Ind. to Benjamin & Jane Clara (Judson) Juday.

She graduated from Howe High School and was married on Nov. 1, 1941 in Elkhart to Frederick M. “Fred” Koeppel who preceded her on Dec. 8, 1990. She was a homemaker and moved to Syracuse 38 years ago from Elkhart.

She was a member of Saint Andrews United Methodist Church and former member of Simpson United Methodist Church in Elkhart.

She was survived by: daughter, Judy Hardy of Syracuse; son, Fred (Linda) Koeppel of Elkhart; 10 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law Dan Hardy, and eight siblings.

Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. St. Rd 15, Warsaw. Private entombment will take place at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart with Pastor Jim Tormey of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church officiating. Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St. Syracuse, IN, is in charge of arrangements.
