Warsaw Basketball: Patton Powers Key NLC Road Win

Warsaw SportsPLYMOUTH – Perseverance paid off in a big way for the Warsaw girls basketball team Wednesday night.

The Lady Tigers, like the Energizer Bunny, just kept going and going and going to earn a huge conference win over host Plymouth.

Kaylee Patton powered Warsaw to a 68-60 victory in three overtimes in the Northern Lakes Conference marathon contest.

Sophomore Patton tossed in a career-high 26 points as Warsaw improved to 11-5 overall and moved to 2-0 in league action. Patton drained 15-16 free throws in the win.

Kacy Bragg provided the heroics for the Tigers with a bucket at the end of regulation play to tie the game at 47-47 to force the first overtime.

The two teams went scoreless in the first extra session before each scored 10 points in the second one to remain tied at 57-57. Warsaw outscored the Pilgrims 11-3 in the final overtime period to earn the win.

Plymouth led 9-7 after the first quarter before Warsaw too a 24-22 halftime lead. The teams were tied at 35-35 after the third period.

Maddie Ryman drained four treys to finish with 14 point for Warsaw, which hit 10 3-pointers in the win.

Bragg finished with 12 points and Brielle Harrison led the winners with nine rebounds.

Warsaw went 20-28 from the free throw line on the night, while Plymouth was 15-20 from the stripe.

Ali Andrews and Halie Reichard each scored 18 points to pace Plymouth. The Pilgrims fall to 7-8 overall and move to 1-2 in the NLC.

Plymouth won the junior varsity game 27-23. Kendall Wayne had 11 points and Kensie Ryman six to lead Warsaw, which drops to 10-6 overall and 1-1 in the NLC.

Warsaw will host Northridge in a huge NLC game Saturday night. The defending league champion Raiders are 16-3 overall and 3-0 in NLC play. Northridge handed Class 4-A No. 13 Fort Wayne South its first loss of the season by a 71-59 final Wednesday afternoon in Middlebury. The Raiders have won their last five games and 11 of their last 12 contests.

Plymouth will host Elkhart Memorial in NLC action Saturday afternoon.
