
Shirley Carpenter, 89, Syracuse, passed away Jan. 2, 2018, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Syracuse.
She was born Jan. 26, 1928, in Syracuse to Merwood and Ola (Garrison) Ketring. On Sept. 7, 1946, she married Chester “Bud” Carpenter who preceded her in 1981.
She was a lifelong area resident. She was a homemaker as well as a receptionist for RTI Transport. She was active in Boy Scouts as a den mother, Girl Scouts and PTA.
She is survived by her son, Gregg (Sally) Carpenter, North Webster; grandchildren: Dorian (Anita) Carpenter, Cromwell; Travis Carpenter, Goshen; Rachell Carpenter, North Webster; Keith (Melinda) Galloway, Georgetown; Mathew, Jonathan, and Adam Norris, all of South Bend; great-grandchildren: Paizlee Carpenter, and Kaleb Galloway.
She was also preceded by her daughter Debora in 1990.
A memorial service for Shirley will be held from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 6, at the Syracuse Eagles. Private family interment will be at the Violet cemetery at a later date.
