KOSCIUSKO — Members of the Extension Homemakers Knitting Together Club have been using their favorite hobby to give back to the community. Each year, members of the club knit items to donate to worthy, local causes.

This year, the group donated 92 hats to the Salvation Army to distribute to children in need. The yearly donation is made in memory of Hendrene Schutt, who was a member of the Extension Homemakers Knitting Together Club and a volunteer for the Salvation Army. For many years, she helped the club knit hats for the Salvation Army and now the club knits in her honor.

Along with the Salvation Army, the club also donates baby hats to both Parkview and Kosciusko Community hospitals, baby blankets to head start, pillows to breast cancer survivors, lap blankets to Miller’s Merry Manor, and many other causes.

“For a club our size, we do a lot of charity work,” said Sue Martin, president of the Knitting Together Club.

The club has been active since 1989 and donating hats for at least 15 years. The club consists of 14 active members, ranging in ages of 48 to 90 years old. The club meets monthly to share new ideas, discuss upcoming projects and enjoy time together. Knitters and crocheters of all skill levels are encouraged to join the club.
