Helen Louise Shields, 99, Wakarusa, formerly of Bremen, passed away at 9:50 a.m., Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, in Miller’s Merry Manor of Wakarusa.

Helen was born on Nov. 17, 1918, the daughter of Walter and Grace (Strong) Miller.  On Aug. 5, 1939, she married Charles W. Shields. He passed away on May 9, 1998. She is survived by three children, Janet (Roger) Grimm of Nappanee, Donna Newcomer of Mishawaka, and Jack (Pam) Shields of Mishawaka.

She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren and her brother, Robert and Betty Miller of South Bend.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two daughters, Sharon Steele and Linda Mocaby and two siblings, Earl Miller and Doris Schafer.

Helen worked for the Bremen Ristance for 16 years before retiring.  She was a member of the Bremen United Methodist Church and a life member of the Bremen VFW Auxiliary.

Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 9, in Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 St. Rd. 331, Bremen.  Funeral services will begin at 3 p.m. with the burial to follow in Bremen Cemetery In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to American Lung Association or the American Cancer Society.
