Two Robotics Teams Win Tournament Championship

SYRACUSE — Wawasee High School’s Iron Pride robotics team won the East Jay Robotics Qualifier Saturday, Nov. 18, at East Jay County Middle School in Portland, Ind., taking home the tournament championship for two Iron Pride teams.

Teams 574C “Centurion” led by Micah Rassi, Evan Rassi, Nicholas Murphy and Joe Kelsheimer, and team 574J “Xerxes” led by Ethan Hays, Braxton Studabaker, Nathan Smith and Aaron McKinney won the entire tournament. Team Centurion also faced off against two other schools in the Robotic Skills Showdown, outscoring the competition in both programming and driving faceoffs.

Centurion and team 574K “Athena” led by Norah Miller, Makenna Tharp and Vanessa Wright placed in the top five for the Design Award, with Centurion taking home the trophy.

Eight out of nine Wawasee teams made it to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
