NorthWood Basketball: Black Swish Rallies Past Norwell
OSSIAN – A fine finish carried the NorthWood girls basketball team to an impressive win Saturday.
The Panthers used a 13-point edge in the final frame to rally past host Norwell 57-50 in a non-conference matchup.
NorthWood trailed 44-38 before outscoring the Class 3-A No. 10 ranked Knights 19-6 in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.
The Black Swish bounced back in a big way after losing a 58-49 overtime decision to Elkhart Central at home Tuesday night. NorthWood had a 10-point halftime lead in that contest before scoring just 15 points in the second half and being held scoreless in the overtime session.
Norwell, which drops to 3-1, led 13-9 after the opening period and 33-26 at halftime Saturday.
Kenzie Bergman fired in 16 points, including hitting four treys, to pace NorthWood.
Neely Trenshaw had 10 big points while Emily Demitruk scored eight and Maddy Payne seven for the Panthers.
Savannah Feenstra and Kate Rulli each turned in big all-around efforts for the winners. Feenstra had 11 rebounds and four assists to go with five points. Rulli had nine caroms to go with four assists and 11 points.
The duo of Bergman and Demitruk each had three steals for coach Adam Yoder’s squad.
NorthWood hit 15-28 free throws in the win. Norwell was a dismal 8-24 from the charity stripe.
Norwell won the junior varsity game 50-45.
NorthWood, now 4-2, hosts Triton Tuesday night. The Trojans dropped to 2-4 with a 46-27 loss at Wawasee Saturday night. The Panthers then host Concord on Nov. 30 in their conference opener.
Orwell plays at Fort Wayne Concordia Tuesday night.
