LCA Basketball: Cougars Claim Season Opening Win

Lakeland SportsWINONA LAKE – The first-ever conference game in the history of the Lakeland Christian Academy girls basketball program was one to remember Friday night.

The host Cougars rolled from the start in topping South Bend Career Academy 61-18.

LCA is now competing in the newly-formed Hoosier Plains Conference. The league includes LCA, along with South Bend Career Academy, Granger Christian, South Bend Trinity and South Bend Community Baptist.

The Cougars bolted to a 17-5 lead after the opening quarter and led 38-8 Friday night in rolling to a win in their season opener.

Senior standout Hope Fancil paced the Cougars with 19 points. She also had eight rebounds, six steals and four assists.

Senior Jess Slone had 12 points and 11 rebounds for LCA. Sophomore Torie Calizo added 10 points for the Cougars, who had 11 different players score in the contest.

LCA (1-0) hosts Churubusco and SB Career Academy (0-2) hosts Westville on Tuesday night.
