KOSCIUSKO — A Claypool couple has been arrested for auto theft after a witness saw them suspiciously park a vehicle and remove the license plate. The vehicle had previously been reported stolen for Ryman Auto Connection, Warsaw.
Matthew Shawn Miller, 31, and Brittany Marie Mickey (also named as Brittany Marie Miller), 26, 8672 South CR 600W, Claypool, are both being charged with auto theft, level six felonies.
On Nov. 2, an officer with the Warsaw Police Department responded to a suspicious activity report at KGP Logistics in Warsaw. A witness advised she saw a black Buick Riviera drive into the parking lot. A male and female exited the vehicle. The male removed the license plate from the vehicle and placed it under his shirt. The couple then walked away.
The officer was able to locate a male and female matching the provided clothing descriptions walking near the area. The male was identified as Miller and the female as Mickey. The couple stated that someone gave them a ride from Mentone to KGP Logistics. Neither one of them said anything about the vehicle or the license plate.
Earlier that day, a 1997 black Buick Riviera was reported stolen from Ryman Auto Connection’s lot. The vehicle located in the KGP Logistics parking lot matched the vehicle reported stolen.
Mickey was read her Miranda Rights and agreed to talk to the officer about the vehicle. She admitted to knowing the vehicle was not theirs and not having permission to use or possess it. She stated that both she and her husband Miller had operated the vehicle.
Both Miller and Mickey were booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on Nov. 2 with $5,250 surety and cash bonds.
