Sondra J. Geller — UPDATED
Sondra J. Geller, 74, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at 4:25 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, 2017 at the St. Joseph Medical Center in Mishawaka.
On Jan. 9, 1943 in Rochester, Sondra Jean Mikesell was born. She was the treasured daughter of James and Harriet Lewis Mikesell. Growing up she shared her childhood with her brother Larry.
On March 24, 1963 Sondra married Mr. George W. Geller. After many years they divorced. In the early years Sondra worked at Topps Mfg. Later she was dedicated to the Lau Corporation for almost four decades. She was also a member of the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary for 33 years.
A lady of perpetual motion and the heart of the energizer bunny, Sondra was always in the thick of things. She took great pride in mowing and manicuring her yard and planting flowers. She looked forward to crafts with Christmas ornaments as her specialty. To relax Sondra enjoyed her morning cup of coffee while watching the activities on the beautiful and mighty Tippecanoe River. Of course she had many friends, the domestic back yard birds, squirrels and deer on occasion. They were all well fed and cared for, many times providing entertainment.
As the proud matriarch, Grandma Sondra took great joy with overseeing four generations. She enjoyed family time, holidays and special family celebrations. Grandma was always ready to challenge the grandkids she truly adored with a variety of board games. As their number one cheerleader she rarely missed a football or baseball game. Grandma Sondra once traveled to Texas to watch the graduation of her grandson.
Left to cherish Sondra’s memory are five children: Alissia Geller and fiancee’ Shawn Law of Cedar Park, Texas; Yvonne Beller and husband Doug, Selena Johnston and husband Scott, Gilbert Lee, Leroy “Bud” Geller and wife Bonnie Sue, all of Rochester; nine grandchildren: Amy Harris, Nickie Lee, Ashley Geller, Wes Geller, Austin White, Houston White, Jacob “Jake” Dawson, Wes Johnston and Harry Johnston; ten great grandchildren: Tosha Harris, Sarrakka Harris, Jaydon Geller, Alley Calvert, Sienna King, Dane Glick, Nevaeh White, Emma White, Hayden White, Houston White, with two new additions Daniel White, November 2017 and a new great-granddaughter expected on Jan. 17, 2018. Also surviving are Great-Aunt Evabelle Enyart of Rochester and Great-Uncle Clyde Lewis and wife Laura of Logansport; niece Dawn Mikesell; and two nephews: Mike Mikesell and Jerry Mikesell. Preceding Sondra in death was her parents and brother, Larry J. Mikesell.
A celebration of the life of Sondra Jean Geller will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov., 8, in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th Street, Rochester. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. and an hour prior to her service on Thursday. Burial will follow in Rochester’s IOOF Cemetery.
