WINONA LAKE – Both of Grace College’s soccer goalkeepers were honored by the Crossroads League for their play between the pipes.
Grace women’s soccer goalkeeper Abby Schue was recognized nationally by the NCCAA as the National Defender of the Week on Monday.
Schue allowed just one goal last week in 200 minutes of action. She made five saves in the week, including three in a double overtime draw at Mt. Vernon Nazarene, who is receiving votes in the NAIA.
She shut out Goshen in 90 minutes in the regular season finale.
The Lady Lancers enter postseason play this week, traveling to No. 2 seed Marian on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the Crossroads League Tournament.
Kurt Hamlin is filling up his trophy case this year after being named the Crossroads League Defender of the Week for the third time.
Hamlin racked up 12 saves last week to win a pair of games for the Lancers. Against Goshen, who is receiving votes in the NAIA, he made eight saves in a 1-0 shutout victory. That game marked the first home loss all season for the Maple Leafs and secured the No. 2 seed for the Lancers in this week’s Crossroads League Tournament.
The Lancers will host seventh-seeded Mt. Vernon Nazarene on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at 1st Source Bank Field for the quarterfinals of the CL Tournament.
