WCHS students search streambeds for answers to what organisms might reside below the water’s surface.

WARSAW — Warsaw Community High School’s environmental studies and zoology classes recently visited Eagle Creek to investigate the ecology and condition of the stream.

The classes performed various activities from the Hoosier Riverwatch. Students performed a macroinvertebrate survey to help evaluate the health of the stream as certain species are more tolerant to pollutants and others are intolerant.

In addition, they measured the flow rate of the stream by taking several depth and width measurements that were average. Students also utilized a float to time how long it took to travel certain distances and hunted for mollusks.
