Stephen and Connie Schermerhorn

NEW PARIS — Stephen and Connie Schermerhorn, New Paris, celebrated their 50th anniversary with a private family dinner Monday, Oct. 16.

They were married Oct. 9, 1967, in Nappanee Church of the Brethren by Rev. William Kidwell. Their attendants were maid of honor, Carolyn Johnson; and best man, Tom Morehouse.

Connie is the daughter of the late Lawrence and Ruby Sawyer of Milford. Steve is the son of the late Paul and June Schermerhorn of Leesburg.

Steve is a retired engineer from Chore-Time Brock, Milford. He also served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War on the USS Mount McKinley. He currently is the vice president of the USS Mount McKinley Alumni Association. Steve served as a volunteer on the National Ski Patrol for many years. He is an active member of the VFW Honor Guard in Goshen.

Connie is a former office manager of Mt. Wawasee Ski Area in New Paris. She is an avid gardener and also served as an Elkhart County 4-H leader for 20 years.

They have one daughter, Kristine (John) Ambrosen; and one grandson, Hunter of Jones, Mich.
