Turkey Creek Township Trustee Barb Griffith presented her proposed 2018 budget and resolution at the Monday, Oct. 9, meeting of the township’s advisory board.

“The state board of accounts reviewed this proposal and said it looks good to them,” said Griffith. The board unanimously passed the proposal and all board members signed the resolution.

Griffith also reported her office dispensed poor relief in September in the following amounts:

• $1,000 for rent

• $3,440.50 for utilities

• $224.41 for food

The township also transferred $42,734.76 in county income tax funds to the fire territory in September.

Fire Chief Mickey Scott reported he attended a Sept. 27 meeting to update the Kosciusko County multi-hazard mitigation plan.

“As part of the revision we would like to have thoughts and ideas from the public,” he said. Anyone interested in providing input to the county’s hazard survey may visit www.surveymonkey.com/r/koscountyhazardsurvey.

Scott also said, “We would like to say ‘thank you’ to all the area fire departments and EMS agencies, as well as local, county and state law enforcement agencies who have recently provided assistance to and worked with our department in many capacities at several emergencies in our area and the surrounding areas.

“There were multiple times when several agencies were all working together at the same time to achieve a common goal,” he said.

“This interagency cooperation is crucial to our department and other departments in our area to provide the best possible protection, not only to our citizens but to the citizens of neighboring communities as well.”

Scott announced the week of Oct. 8-14 is National Fire Prevention Week.

“The theme for 2017 is ‘Every Second Counts; Plan Two Ways Out,’” he said. “We would like to remind everyone to plan two ways out of the structure you are in. Practice two ways out of your school, home, etc.

“Also, any time you are staying at a hotel, motel, etc., remember to review the exit pathways from the structure so in an emergency you will remember two ways to exit the building. During an emergency one exit route could be blocked and you will have to use the second route to exit the building or area.

“Our department has and continues to work on this concept with the public, schools, day care centers, etc., in our area.”

The board will next meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13, at Syracuse Town Hall.
