CULVER — Mia Beckham’s collection of Culver Academies postseason hardware is now complete.
The Warsaw senior, who sat out the past two seasons at sectional, added a Culver Girls Academy Sectional championship to her two CGA Regional titles Saturday.
The Lady Tigers went one-two as Beckham and Emma Bohnenkamper seized the top two spots in the field, and Warsaw breezed to its seventh straight sectional championship at Saturday’s CGA Sectional with a score of 35. Rochester placed second with a score of 60, Manchester (90) was third, the host Eagles (111) finished fourth, and Plymouth (140) earned the last ticket out to next weekend’s regional race. Tippecanoe Valley finished seven points away from advancing — although three Lady Vikings did earn individual regional berths — and Triton’s two runners both made the top 10 from non-advancing teams to move on Saturday.
While Warsaw has had the luxury of sitting its number one the past two years, the Tigers needed Beckham Saturday, and she was happy to help her team.

“This is the first time she’s ever run sectional. We’ve always rested her,” explained head coach Matt Campbell. “We were just deep enough in the past years, and this year we needed our frontrunners.”
“I was really appreciative of the past couple years to be able to rest. It’s really been something that not very many other teams can do, which is nice, but this year I had to run for my team because we don’t have as many seniors this year as we did last year that can help us make it on to the next race,” echoed Beckham.
“I’m actually kind of happy. It’s my first sectional title, so it’s kind of exciting.”
Beckham’s 19:37 stop was nearly a minute better than fellow Warsaw senior Bohnenkamper’s 20:31 time but well off her usual pace. But in the blustery conditions along Lake Maxinkuckee Saturday, it was a taxing pace nonetheless and more than good enough to add an individual sectional title to her resume.
“I was trying to go out really hard this race because I wanted to push it before taking a little bit of a break at regionals. The conditions, I’m not really happy with my time, but it’s sectional and we moved on so I have other chances,” said Beckham. “It doesn’t seem really hot but it actually is, and on that last stretch (along the water), it’s super windy. I was running sideways, and I was hoping to get to that stretch where it’s straight. I was like ‘Oh, come on. I need to get to there first.’ It was super windy and kind of hot, but no excuses.”
While Warsaw needed Beckham’s help Saturday, Campbell did sit out three of the Tigers’ top seven — Angie Sanchez, Remi Beckham and Amslie Howett — in preparation for next week’s regional race back at the Culver Academies.
Bohnenkamper gave her team a huge lift with her runner-up turn, junior Carmen Yoder (21:34) and sophomore Taylor Gunter (21:38) challenged one another in ninth and 10th place, and senior Sierra Palmer (21:56) placed 13th to complete their team’s score.

“We had some girls step up. Bohnenkamper had a huge race, and that’s what we’re looking for — another frontrunner. Her coming out and getting second was huge for us,” said Campbell.
“We sat three of our top seven, so we gave different girls opportunities. It’s fun winning but we gave the girls some experience, and we should come out a little bit better next week, I would think.”
The Tigers easily extended their sectional championship streak to seven straight as the other eight teams in the field were pretty much racing for second place Saturday.
“We’ve had some amazing coaches. Having them coach us throughout these past couple years, getting our sectional titles has really been from them,” Mia Beckham said. “They put so much time and effort into coaching us, which I’m really appreciative of. They’re just amazing coaches.
“Obviously we’ve put in work, but they’re the ones that really get us to where we want to be.”
Manchester was paced by junior Jaelyn Webb’s fourth-place, 20:48 time. Freshman Torina Runkel (21:02) also broke into the top 10 in sixth place, while junior Katie Barker (22:44) finished 18th, sophomore Maddy Evans (24:01) was 30th, and frosh Anna Markham (24:55) was 37th.
Valley may have fallen just short of a team berth at regional, but three of the Vikings’ runners did earn top 10 placements among individuals from non-advancing teams to make the cut out.

Jadyn Kolesiak (22:37) finished 12th, fellow sophomore Valeria Jimenez (23:02) was 21st, and junior Haley Hoover (24:14) was 33rd overall as the trio earned a place at next Saturday’s CGA Regional field. Freshman Ava Craig (25:21) and junior Lorena Santiago (25:49) closed out their seasons in 40th and 44th place, meanwhile.
Triton’s two runners also earned spots at the regional starting line.
Sophomore Brianna Wilhite (23:12) placed 24th overall, and senior Baylee McIntire (23:55) was close behind in 29th place.
Warsaw will be racing for an eighth straight regional championship as the IHSAA tournament reconvenes at the Culver Academies next Saturday at 11:10 a.m. Any finish in the top five team standings would guarantee the Tigers a place at the following weekend’s New Prairie Semistate.
“We’re going to train pretty hard this next week. Obviously the goal is to come out and win regionals,” Campbell said. “Semistate is going to be a dogfight. Right now we’re on the outside looking in, but not everyone runs well that day so if we run well and somebody bombs, we have a chance. And we still have a chance if we run awesome, just come out and run our best.”
