Peggy Ann Schroeder, 73, Whitley County, died at 7:20 a.m. Friday, October 6, 2017 at her home.

She was born June 22, 1944 in Fort Wayne, a daughter of Coral and Violet (Baker) Platter. Her formative years were spent in Jefferson Township, Whitley County. She graduated from Columbia City Joint High School, received her Bachelor Degree in Education from Purdue University and Masters in Education from St. Francis College.

Peggy met her husband, Ronald D. Schroeder, while in 4-H and they were united in marriage on June 17, 1967. They made their home on a farm in Etna Troy Township.

A home economics teacher, she was at Hammond for a year, Warsaw for five years and started Columbia City Joint High School in 1972 retiring from Columbia City High School in 2003.

Surviving relatives include her husband, Ron; two children, Ronald Mark (Rebecca) Schroeder of Albion and Tracy Ann (Mark) Zarse of Goodland; four grandchildren, Megan Schroeder, Ryan Schroeder, Eric Zarse and Sara Zarse; a brother, Richard “Gene” Platter of Warsaw; and a sister, Karen Scheumann of Columbia City.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Larwill. The visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
