AKRON — It was a walk in the park kind of meeting. Tippecanoe Valley School Board breezed through its work session Thursday night as the members discussed grants they’ve received for a walking trail at Mentone Elementary.
Mentone has received around $87,730 in grants for a new half mile walking trail at the elementary school. They received a grant of $84,230, which was donated by K21 Health Foundation that will fund the pavement of a 10 foot wide, half mile long walking path.
The board will be approving the grant Monday at its regular board meeting after which they’ll begin the process of building the trail, starting with bids. Should the school receive a bid under the granted amount, Mentone will seek approval from K21 Health Foundation to use the extra funds for landscaping the trail.
Mentone received an additional $3,500 from the Kosciusko County Community Fund for the walking trail. It was not specified what these funds would be used for specifically.
