AKRON — Akron Elementary took one more step in completing its renovations, and this time it focused on the schools future rather than its present. Akron sealed its 2017 time capsule to be buried in a pillar at the school’s entrance. The capsules resting place will be sealed at a later date and engraved with 2017.

After breaking ground in May of 2016, the Akron Fliers opened the previous time capsule that was buried on the property. Principal Chrissy Mills told the students, “Well now it’s time for us to make a new time capsule and put it into our new building.”

Akron students gathered outside in front of their new school to fill their time capsule. Akron included an old newspaper from the original time capsule and letters from the students and principal in the capsule as well as some less serious items such as skittles, a Motorola Razor cellphone and bandaids. “They probably won’t be using cellphones in the next 100 years,” Mills teased.

The capsule is gauged to be sealed “for at least 75-100 more years before (it is) opened.”
