WARSAW – The Lakeview Middle School 8th grade volleyball team felt right at home Saturday.

The hosts had the mosts on the day to claim the championship of their own invitational.

Lakeview went a perfect 4-0 on the day, beating crosstown foe Edgewood 25-12, 25-20 in the title match to earn top honors in the annual event.

Lakeview beat Northfield 21-9, 21-14, Wabash 21-9, 21-1 and Wawasee 21-16, 21-9 to earn its spot in the finale.

Cora West continued her stellar season for the champions as she put down 21 kills and served up 16 aces on the day to pace her team.

Kylie Smith had a big all-around performance with 10 kills, 13 aces and five assists. Sara Peugh had six kills, two assists and an ace, while Abbie Porter had 35 assists to go with an ace and a kill.

Anna Gustafson contributed with five kills, three aces and an assist for Lakeview. Tori Jones had three kills and an ace, while Wrigley Crabtree had a kill and an ace. The rio of Hannah Shapiro, Emma Christenberry and Emilee Schmucker each had one kill.

The Lakeview 7th grade team went 3-1 in the invite to finish third out of eight teams.
Lakeview beat Northfield 21-13, 21-16 as Anna Bazzoni had three aces and Madi Desenberg had two kills and two aces. The team also beat Wawasee 21-6, 21-10 as Desenberg had three aces and Caitlyn Patrick had five kills, an ace and an assist. The squad beat Southwood 25-17, 25-22 as Patrick had five kills and four aces and Lauren Eastwood had two kills and an ace. Wabash beat Lakeview 21-18, 21-10. Patrick had three kills and four aces in that match.
