NorthWood Sports Wrap: Sept. 26
Girls Soccer
A strong second half effort carried the NorthWood girls soccer team to a 2-0 win over Plymouth.
The Panthers scored twice in the final half to earn the Northern Lakes Conference win over the host Pilgrims.
Cindy Barahona scored the first goal in the 53rd minute, assisted by Kali Parisi. Avery Bontrager added an insurance goal for the Panthers in the 60th minute.
NorthWood had a 9-8 edge in shots on goal in the win, while Plymouth had a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Kira Robinson had eight saves in goal for the winners. CeCe Robinson made seven saves for Plymouth.
NorthWood improves to 9-4-2 overall and goes to 3-2-1 in NLC play. Plymouth drops to 4-7-4 and 2-4-1.
Plymouth won the junior varsity game 3-1.
NorthWood hosts Wawasee in another NLC match Thursday night.
Cross Country
The NorthWood girls cross country team lost a 26-30 final at Elkhart Christian Academy.
Ariana Runge led the Panthers as she placed third in a time of 22:40.
Karlie Fielstra was fifth overall in 23:47 with Abigail Vorhis sixth in 24:06. Erica Stutsman was seventh in 24:06 and Reese Barhydt ninth in 24:20 for the Panthers.
Also for NorthWood, Jennifer Martinez was 10th in 24:21, followed by Megan Miller 13th (25:16), Amanda Jenkins 14th (25:20), Molly Smith 16th (25:46), Erika Martinez 18th (27:44), McKynze Miller 19th (28:11), Hannah Eberle (20th) 28:57), Lydia Schmidt 21st (29:51), Kristin Chapman 22nd (31:02) and Natalie Venable 23rd (31:07).
NorthWood will compete in the NLC Meet Saturday at Ox Bow Park.
