NorthWood Sports Wrap: Sept. 25
Volleyball
The NorthWood volleyball team picked up a win over host Jimtown.
The Panthers topped the Jimmies 25-22, 25-19, 26-24 in the non-conference match.
Kennedy Wiens paced the Panthers to the win with 16 kills. She also had a pair of aces for her team.
Maddy Payne had eight kills and five blocks for the winners. Courtney Lengacher had five aces and 38 assists.
Whitney Gessinger led the defense for NorthWood with 16 digs. Haylee Pennington and Natalie Gerber each had three blocks for the Panthers.
NorthWood improves to 19-8 on the season.
The NorthWood junior varsity team beat Jimtown 25-13, 25-16. Alea Minnich and Ali Knepp each had five kills for the winners. Kate Rulli and Grace Knisely each had four aces and Kendal Miller had six digs, while Minnich and Knisely each had three. Rulli had two blocks and Caroline Mullet 18 assists.
NorthWood will host Warsaw in a key conference match Thursday night. The Panthers are 4-1 in NLC play.
Boys Tennis
The NorthWood boys tennis team closed out regular season play by blanking West Noble 5-0.
Ben Vincent led the way with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles for the Panthers.
Landon Holland notched a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles and Jack Wysong won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
The NorthWood doubles teams did not lose a game on the night. The No. 1 duo of Jared Hoffman and Brant Mast and the No. 2 team of Trevor Klotz and Trajan Schwartz each posted 6-0, 6-0 wins.
Grant Topping won 6-0, 6-0 in singles play for the Panthers.
NorthWood, now 11-4, will face Jimtown in the opening match of the Goshen Sectional Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at Goshen Middle School.
