Lakeview Spikers Claim Tourney Title

WARSAW – The Lakeview Middle School 8th grade volleyball team returned home a champion Saturday.

The squad won the Dunes Middle School Tournament by going a perfect 5-0 in the event.

Lakeview beat North Hudson 25-12, 25-14, Grisson 25-9, 25-5 and Krueger 25-10, 25-14 in pool play. The team then defeated New Prairie 25-21 and Kelsing 26-24 in bracket play to earn the title.

Cora West had a big day for the champions as she totaled 24 kills to go with 16 aces.

Kylie Smith had 16 kills and 15 aces for the day, while Sara Peugh had 25 aces and seven kills. Wrigley Crabtree had four kills and four aces, Abbie Porter five aces, six kills and 54 assists and Tori Jones six kills and two aces. Anna Gustafson had five kills and three aces, Emma Christenberry six kills and two aces, Hannah Shapiro and Morgan Dyck one kill each.

The Lakeview 7th grade team went 2-2 in the Dunes Tourney. The team beat Barker 25-8, 25-6 as Caitlyn Patrick had 10 aces and three kills and Madi Desenberg had four aces and two kills. The team also beat North Judson 25-15, 25-13 as Patrick had seven aces and four kills and Lauren Eastwood had four aces and two kills and Desenberg had four aces.
The 7th grade lost to Wabash 25-20, 25-8. Desenberg had three kills in that match. The team also lost to Pioneer 25-13 as Desenberg had one ace and Patrick one kill. The team is now 15-2 on the season.

The Lakeview girls and boys cross country teams fared well in the huge Culver Military Academy Invitational Saturday.

The Lakeview girls placed 20th out of 36 teams and the boys placed 18th out of 35 teams in the event, which attracted over 700 girls and 700 boys to compete in the Middle School races.

Rylee Burns led the Lakeview girls’ contingent as she placed 27th overall in a time of 12:32. Mikayla Mimnaugh was 42nd overall in 12:45 with Kiersten Parker 98th in a time of 13:25. Also competing were Kylie Werensly (15:03), Lizzie Miner (15:32), Karissa Barth (16:47), Rachel Doyle (17:08), Gracie Willig (17:13) and Maia Young (19:10). Edward Robison led the boys team as he placed 38th in a time of 11:22. David Howard was 79th in a time of 11:44 with Levi Perry 86th in a time of 11:48. Also competing were Garrett Hall (12:13), Carlos Velazquez (12:35), Jose Velazquez (12:42), Bryce Duncan (13:18), Ricardo Verduzco (13:40) and Carter Kreft (15:07).
