
James W. Denny, 82, of Culver, passed away at 2:10 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017 in the comfort of his home.
On Feb. 21, 1935, James William Denny was born in Delong. He was a treasured son of Joseph Walter and Daisy Mae Miller Denny. Following high school patriotism beckoned. Jim answered the call by enlisting with the United States Air Force. During his 20 years of service to our country he initially served as a medic during the Korean War. He later moved into a variety of administrative roles. He was very proud to serve the United States under four Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon and Ford.
Next Jim dedicated his life to research specializing in cancer research. He work in labs testing hamsters, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits and gerbils for more than 20 years. As an entrepreneur, returning to his Indiana roots, Jim opened Denny’s Tippy Mart in the beautiful town of Tippecanoe. This allowed locals a convenience store serving their needs. Most recently he and nephew Bill Clinger collaborated to form a concrete yard ornament and accent company known as Jim & Bill’s Concrete. They established their company in 2012, specializing in creating custom molds and casting images from animals to coins, tailored to their customers needs.
In Leiter’s Ford on Valentine’s Day in 1955, Jim married the love of his life, Grace Ann Hettinger. They enjoyed nearly 55 years of life’s adventures.
Jim will be lovingly remembered by his grandson: Kevin Michael Denny of Ark; nieces and nephews: Michelle and Bill Clingler; Tom and Peggy Clingler and their children: Sydney, Jordan, Carter and Kameron; Eric and Jenny Clingler and their children: Kailey and Owen; Ryan and Amber Onax and their children: Hunter and Hadleigh; Larry and C.J. Clingler; two brothers: Carl Denny and wife Leila of LaPorte; Gerald Denny of Seattle.
Preceding Jim in death are his parents, beloved wife Grace on January 5, 2010, a daughter, Cindy Lou Denny Malott, a son, Steven Michael Denny; two sisters; Carol Morningstar, Joann Clingler and a brother, Norman Denny.
A celebration of the life of James W. Denny will be at noon on Saturday, Sept. 23, in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th St. Rochester. Chaplain Dan DeCrow will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 a.m. until noon on Saturday in the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted by the Fulton County Veteran’s Honor Guard and the US Air Force Honors Team. Interment will be in the Lee’s Chapel Cemetery of Batesville, Arkansas.
