Boys Soccer
Goshen held up its lofty state ranking, pounding Wawasee 10-2 Tuesday in Northern Lakes Conference boys soccer.
The No. 10-ranked RedHawks in Class 3-A did everything right once Wawasee took an early 1-0 lead. Blayne Faught stunned the RedHawks with a goal, assisted by Ian Lambright. Goshen then stacked up goal after goal, piling up a 10-1 lead before Wawasee had Ryan Edington put home a goal late in the second half, assisted by Chris Pena.
Goshen goal scorers included Lucas Bontreger with four, Junior Argueta with two and solo tallies from Alex Martinez, Ricardo Vargas Ortiz, Manuel Castillo and Ciro Aguilar. Argueta had two assists while Efren Ortega and Saulo Luna both had helpers.
Goshen moves to 11-2 overall and 5-1 in the NLC while Wawasee evens at 4-4-3 and 0-4 in the NLC.
Goshen won the JV contest 9-3.
Wawasee plays Lakeland on Thursday.
Girls Soccer
Northridge continued its quest for the Northern Lakes Conference title with a 7-0 run through at home against Wawasee.
Northridge saw Arianna Stoltzfus, Sage Schnell and Izzy Love all net two goals and Kyla Long get one. Wawasee keeper Graceanne Kerlin was credited with seven saves.
Northridge sits at 9-2-2 overall and 4-0-1 in the conference while Wawasee drops to 3-9 and 0-3.
