NorthWood SportsGirls Soccer

The NorthWood girls soccer team lost to Elkhart Central 6-0 Saturday.

The host Blue Blazers scored three goals in each half to top the Panthers in the non-conference match.

Alize Furlow and Keely Duemig each had a pair of goals to pace the winners.

Central had a 25-12 edge in shots and each team had two corner kicks.

Goalie Kira Robinson had 19 saves for the Panthers.

NorthWood drops to 7-3-2 overall on the season.

NorthWood won the junior varsity match 2-1.

NorthWood hosts Elkhart Christian Academy Tuesday night.

 

Cross Country

It was a pretty good weekend for Erica Stutsman.

It was a really good Saturday for the NorthWood girls cross country team too.

Stutsman, the star senior for the Panthers, led her team to a third-place finish in the West Noble Invitational in Ligonier.

Stutsman started her weekend by being named Homecoming Queen Friday night at halftime of NorthWood’s home football game versus Wawasee.

On Saturday, the standout raced to a third-place individual finish in a time of 20:14.

The Panthers posted a team score of 117 to finish third in the 21-team event. Fort Wayne Dwenger ran away with the team title with a score of 23. Fort Wayne Luers was second at 110, followed by NorthWood, Carroll (122) and Columbia City (139) to round out the top five teams.

Whitney Wolfe was the second Panther to hit the finish line as she placed 16th overall in 21:12. Kate Jarvis was 24th overall in 21:28, followed by teammates Jennifer Martinez in 43rd (22:17), Breanne Resler in 46th (22:19), Megan Miller in 65th (23:02) and Ariana Runge in 67th (23:03).

NorthWood returns to conference action versus Goshen and Elkhart Memorial Tuesday night.
