NorthWood Sports Wrap: Sept. 12
Girls Soccer
A trio of players found the net as the NorthWood girls soccer team picked up a conference win over Elkhart Memorial.
The Panthers got goals from Kali Parisi, Savannah Feenstra and Avery Bontrager to blank the Crimson Chargers 3-0 in a Northern Lakes Conference match in Nappanee.
The hosts took a 1-0 lead in the opening half on a goal by Parisi, assisted by Cindy Barahona.
The Panthers tallied twice in the final half on scores by Feenstra and Bontrgaer. Bontrager also picked up an assist.
NorthWood outshot Memorial 10-3 in the contest. Goalie Kira Robinson notched the shutout for the Panthers with three saves.
NorthWood improves to 7-1-2 overall and moves to 2-1-1 in the NLC. Memorial drops to 3-6 overall and is 0-4 in league play.
NorthWood won the junior varsity game 1-0.
NorthWood plays at conference foe Goshen Thursday night.
Boys Tennis
The NorthWood boys tennis team edged past Northridge by a 3-2 count.
The Panthers got a huge win at No. 2 doubles to earn the Northern Lakes Conference win.
The NorthWood team of Trevor Klotz and Trajan Schwartz rallied for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles to give their team the victory.
NorthWood also won at No. 1 doubles as the team of Brant Mast and Jared Hoffman posted a 6-3, 6-0 win.
Jack Wysong notched a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles action for the Panthers.
Wes Troyer dropped a 6-2, 6-1 match at No. 1 singles and Landon Holland lost 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles play for NorthWood.
NorthWood improves to 6-4 overall and moves to 4-1 in NLC play.
NorthWood won the junior varsity match 4-3. Ben Vincent and Dawson Bley won in singles action. Also winning were the doubles team of Grant Topping and Chase Horner and Nate Clickovich and Bryce Harmon.
NorthWood faces NLC foe Wawasee on Monday.
Cross Country
The NorthWood girls cross country team went 1-1 in conference action.
The Panthers beat concord 24-32 and lost to Warsaw 22-35 in Northern Lakes Conference action at Warsaw.
The trio of Erica Stutsman, Kate Jarvis and Whitney Wolfe led the way for the Panthers.
NorthWood is now 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the NLC.
The Panthers will compete on Saturday in the West Noble Invitational.
