WARSAW — Safety education has never been so much fun. Just ask the children and families who come out each year to Family Safety Day at Warsaw’s Central Park. This year’s event will be held from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9.
Throughout the day, participants can experience a variety of hands-on learning activities, demonstrations and games, all offered free-of-charge to participants. Children are encouraged to take part in the “Safety Scavenger Hunt” to make sure they don’t miss anything.
Among the activities planned are the bicycle rodeo, zip line, boat and bucket truck rides, gummy worm surgery, photo booth, inflatable obstacle course, fire extinguisher simulation and Pink Heals National Tour. Don’t miss your chance to meet firefighters, state police officers, county sheriff’s deputies, paramedics, linemen, DNR officers, dive team members, Sparky the Fire Dog and Daren the Lion. Face painting and balloon art will be provided and a variety of health and safety organizations will also have booths inside Center Lake Pavilion.
New this year, come watch the Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory burn a doll house – all in the name of education. The smoke and flame patterns will help onlookers understand basic fire behavior, including flashover and the effects of horizontal and vertical ventilation.
Sparks will fly high as Kosciusko REMC linemen use hot dogs, balloons and stuffed animals to simulate the dangers of electricity during the Live Line Electric Safety demonstration.
Scheduled Events are:
11 a.m. (activities open)
11 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. (Parkview Samaritan Helicopter)
11:30 a.m. (Live Fire Doll House Demonstration)
