NORTH WEBSTER — Now that school is in session the kids may be looking for an after school activity. Bring them to North Webster Community Public Library at 4 p.m. every Tuesday, starting Sept. 5, for crafts and stories.  Kids in grades kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to stop by the library to create a fun craft while listening to stories. They can come every week or whenever their schedules allow. No registration is needed. Parents are asked to remain in the library during the program.

Also on Tuesday, Sept. 5, children can practice their oral reading skills with Suzie, a certified therapy dog.  She and her handler Richard Lehman will be at the library from 4 to 5 p.m. for 15-minute reading sessions. Suzie is a gentle canine that loves to be read to and it’s a fun way for children to gain confidence while reading aloud. Reading sessions are by appointment only. Children must sign up in advance to secure one of the four appointments available on that day. Suzie will visit the library on Sept. 19 and 26 as well.

The first session of Lapsit Story Time also begins at 11 a.m. on Tuesday for the library’s youngest patrons ages birth to 36 months. Together they and their parents or caregivers will explore books and stories, learn some basic sign language, enjoy songs with hand motions and engage in meaningful play. Parents can also choose to attend the Friday session instead, also at 11 a. m. Lapsit Story Time is held every Tuesday and Friday through September, and registration is required to attend. Parents can sign up for either session at the Youth Services Desk.

Parents and their older children, ages five to 12, can enjoy building together with Legos at Second Saturday Lego Club 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 9. It is a great way to spend quality time together while kids learn creative problem-solving skills by having fun with Legos. Although children nine and older may come on their own, children eight and under should be accompanied by an adult. No registration is needed and Legos are provided.

The adults have been having so much fun at Let’s Move that the weekly dancing fitness class has been extended through Nov. 16.  Meeting every Thursday at 6 p.m., participants dance to a variety of music and dancing styles all for the purpose of exercising and having fun. It’s free and adults of all ages are welcome to join in any time.

Don’t forget to mark your calendar for Sunday, Sept. 10 when the library conducts its annual North Webster Cemetery Walk. From 1 to 3 p.m. visitors can take a guided walking tour through the North Webster Cemetery where costumed enactors portray individuals buried there, telling their life stories. It is a unique way to learn about local history through the lives of ordinary people. The tours start at the North Webster Library. The event is free and open to the public.

The library will be closed on Monday, Sept. 4 for the Labor Day holiday.
