Girls Golf
Wawasee wrapped up its Northern Lakes Conference dual slate Thursday afternoon, topping Goshen 195-240 at Maxwelton.
Wawasee moved to 4-3 in the NLC, with Belle Brunner posting a 46 and Zoe White and Ava Harker both shooting 49. Jadison Rostochak made a 51 and Tate Cowan a 53 for the Lady Warriors.
Goshen was led by McKenna Cripe’s 52, then went Olivia Thomas’ 56, Olivia Lehr’s 60, Estella Borden’s 72 and Ava Chupp’s 91.
Wawasee is 9-5 overall and will work Saturday in the Culver Academy Invite.
Boys Tennis
Wawasee struggled against conference foe Concord in a 5-0 loss in Syracuse.
Concord lost just eight games in the dual, led by shutouts at No. 3 singles from Freddy Buckingham over Zach Leedy and the No. 2 doubles of Jacob Shetterly and Drew McDoughe over Jacob Krugman and Evan Richey.
At one singles, Will Boyer topped Dylan Staley one and two, at two singles, Nate Slabach beat Graham Perek one and one, and at one doubles, Travis Herman and Cal Whitaker beat Brady Robinson and Jake Cowan two and one.
In JV courts, Concord went 2-1, the lone Warrior win came from Clayton Firestone in an 8-2 result against Brayden Newburn.
Wawasee (3-4, 0-2 NLC) will host its Varsity Duals on Saturday.
Volleyball
Plymouth ran off with a 3-0 NLC volleyball win Thursday night, but Wawasee head coach Kayla Riportella saw some signs of life in the 25-13, 25-22, 25-12 result.
“The girls played so well tonight, and they accomplished so many great plays together,” said Riportella. “I’m proud of their efforts, and I’m excited to build from here.”
Tiffany Koble and Brooke Heche combined for 24 digs, Peyton Rookstool and Elizabeth Kleopfer combined for 10 kills and Courtney Larson and Hannah-Marie Lamle put down five blocks.
In the JV game. Plymouth won 25-12, 25-17. Ava Rush had five digs and two kills, Madi Mottern had two kills, and Ella Williamson and Kenzie Click had four digs each for Wawasee, dropping to 7-5 overall.
Wawasee remained perfect at 6-0 in the freshman ranks with a 25-18, 25-21 win over Plymouth. Morgan Heche had six digs and a kill, Emma Dippon had four kills, three digs, three aces and a block, and Cathrine Ondrla had eight aces and two assists.
Wawasee (1-10, 0-1 NLC) will host Goshen next Thursday, Sept. 7.
Football
DeKalb made easy work of Wawasee in freshman football in a 45-13 final in Waterloo.
For the Warriors (1-2), Kameron Salazar had three interceptions and scored a receiving touchdown. Jacob Meek added a touchdown in the loss.
