WARSAW — The NRA Foundation has awarded the Kosciusko County 4-H Shooting Sports Project a grant totaling $4,615.85 to purchase equipment and supplies for the development and further education of the youth of our community.  This also helps recruit new members and retain existing members.

“We are very excited about the opportunities this grant will provide our 3rd through 12th grade members,” said Tammy Wise, Kosciusko County 4-H Shooting Sports Coordinator “And pleased that the NRA is making an investment in our community.”

Kosciusko County 4-H provided youth development opportunities to over 750 young people in 2017 in many areas of STEM, healthy living, citizenship and leadership.  The shooting sports program, supported by many volunteers and community organizations, gives members in 3rd-12th grade the opportunity to learn firearm safety and responsibility while practicing archery, shotgun, pistol, rifle, muzzleloader and outdoor skills.

“I am grateful that the NRA recognizes the quality shooting sports and life skills training that our 4-H members receive.  Support from their organization makes it possible for our young people to do something they enjoy while gaining valuable life skills” says Mindy Wise, 4-H Youth Development Educator with Purdue Extension.

All participants in the 4-H Shooting Sports program are offered Hunter’s Education certification and given hands-on instruction from trained adult volunteers.  To join 4-H, contact the Purdue Extension Office at (574) 372-2340.
