
Harold Eugene Cox, 92, Columbia City, passed away at 3:20 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017 at Miller’s at Oak Pointe. Born Sept. 7, 1924 in Jefferson Township, he was the son of Charles Walter and Bertha (Buffenbarger) Cox.
Harold was a lifetime Jefferson Township resident, except for a brief time when he resided in Washington Township. He attended Jefferson Center High School. On Jan. 16, 1949, he married Iris Rose Standiford in Waynedale. Farming began at a young age for Harold. He and his wife managed and operated the Cox Family Farm until 1976. From there he worked some in sod farming and also was a warehouse worker and truck driver for Commercial Warehouse and Cartage in Fort Wayne.
Survivors include his son, Dale (Renee) Cox, of Albion; daughters, Rita (Ed) Thompson-Sites, of North Webster, Darlene (Jeff) Clack, Myra (Ron) Bolinger, LuAnn Davies, all of Columbia City; brother, Paul Cox, of Columbia City; sister, Lavonne Smith, of Lakeland, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Iris; parents; sons-in-law, Gale Thompson and James Davies; brother-in-law, Charles Smith; and sister-in-law, Joann Cox.
Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove (Compton) Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made in his memory to Heartland Hospice or Jefferson Township Fire Department.
