Warsaw Sports Wrap: Aug. 23
Boys Tennis
The Warsaw boys tennis team picked up a 4-1 win at Mishawaka Marian Wednesday night.
The duo of Spencer Britton and Caleb Williams each won in singles play to pace the Tigers to the non-conference victory.
Britton won 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2 singles and Williams posted a 6-0, 7-6 (7-4) win at No. 3 singles action for coach Rick Orban’s team.
The Tigers had a pair of strong wins in doubles play too. The duo of Bailey Buhrt and Kyler Bartol won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1. The team of Nolan Knight and Reuben Williams posted a 6-1, 6-1 on the No. 2 doubles court for the Tigers.
Marian’s point came at No. 1 singles as Cam Rafinski defeated Colton Lind 6-3, 6-0.
Warsaw, improves to 2-1 on the season.
Warsaw defeated Marian 8-1 in junior varsity play. Winning in singles action for the JV team were Jarett Orr, Hayden Anderson, Michael Ray and Nick Rata. Claiming doubles wins for Warsaw were the teams of Nick Marsh and Brian Elliott, Brandon Chan and Jake Kaufman, Kanton Waddle and Garrett Rodgers and Gage Lind and Grant Knight.
Warsaw begins conference play by hosting Elkhart Memorial on Thursday.
Lakeview Volleyball
The Lakeview Middle School 7th grade volleyball team beat Manchester 25-13, 25-9.
The duo of Christina Rice and Tessa Graney each had seven aces to lead Lakeview. Caitlyn Patrick added six aces for the winners.
Leaders for Manchester were Olivia Neal (four service points), Alexis Gearhart (two service points), Trinity Akins (one point) and Chaynee Tennant (one ace).
The Lakeview 8th grade team topped Manchester 25-15, 25-5.
Abbie Porter led the winners with four aces and 15 assists. Sara Peugh had eight aces and three kills, while Kylie Smith had four kills and an ace and Cora West five kills and an ace. Other contributors for Lakeview in the win included Tori Jones, Wrigley Crabtree, Hannah Shapiro, Emma Christenberry, Morgan Dyck and Emilee Schmucker.
