Tennis
Triton’s boys tennis team fell via a narrow 3-2 decision to defending Hoosier North Athletic Conference champ Knox Wednesday evening.
John Gardner’s three-set, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 loss to Jake Krueger at two singles snapped a 2-2 tie between the HNAC rivals and sealed the Redskins win.
Triton’s two wins both came in doubles play as Keygan Mosier and Chase Butler defeated Ethan Cooper and Clint Stacy 7-6(3), 6-0 at one doubs, and Tyler Heckaman and Jared Bules topped Ethan Sanders and Joey Snowden in a second set tiebreaker for a 6-2, 7-6(7) win.
Carter Kuntz fell 6-2, 6-0 to Knox’s Eian Coad at one singles, and Trevor Miller lost 6-1, 6-0 at three singles.
The Trojans slipped to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
Triton’s JV also fell, 3-0, to Knox.
Golf
Lady Trojans golf split a meet with Bremen and host Tippecanoe Valley at Round Barn Golf in Rochester Wednesday, while Lakeland Christian fielded an incomplete team at the meet.
Triton carded a 236 team score ahead of Valley’s 276 but behind Bremen’s winning 201.
Leading the way for the Trojans were Megan McFarland and Delanie Groves with a pair of 57s, while Whytnie Miller shot 59. Kate Gardner and Alysha May both shot 63 for Triton at the meet.
Valley was paced by Makayla Sandbakken’s 57, while Jordan Krotke shot 65, Bethany Johnson finished a stroke behind, and Kelsey Shafer’s 88 completed the Vikings’ score.
Lakeland’s Abigail Fisher shot 53, and Brianna Smith shot 73 as the only two Cougars at the meet.
Bremen got a pair of 48s from Sara Knepper and Lexi Miller in the win, while Bailey Fritter wasn’t far behind with a 50, and Kailey Simmons shot 55. Ally Taylor’s 71 was the Lions’ toss-out score.
