Wawasee Sports Wrap: Aug. 21
Volleyball
Wawasee earned its first victory of the season Monday night, defeating Lakeland in three.
The Lady Warriors won 25-22, 25-22, 25-19 on its home court and were led by Peyton Rookstool’s six kills and the defense of Tiffany Koble and Elizabeth Kleopfer, who combined for 13 digs. Kleopfer added five aces and Brooke Heche had eight assists.
The JV team from Wawasee (6-2) also earned a win, beating Lakeland 25-15, 25-12. Molly Jones and Kinzie Click combined for seven kills, Click adding three aces, and Ella Williamson recording six digs.
Wawasee (1-2) will get back at it Tuesday when it visits Central Noble.
Football
The JV squad for Wawasee opened its season in style with a 48-0 win against Lakeland.
Special teams were huge for the Warriors, with Austin Baker returning a kick-off 95 yards for a score and Duke Gilmore brought a punt back 55 yards for another touchdown.
Ethan Hardy had a passing touchdown and Levi Brown rushed for two scores.
Jon Koiczney led the defense with eight tackles.
Wawasee (1-0) will host West Noble on Saturday.
