Boys Soccer

Wawasee continued to fill the net Thursday in an 8-3 win at South Bend Riley.

Chris Pena continued his torrid start with four more goals and assisted on two others. Ryan Edington potted two goals while Ian Lambright and Chris Strombeck scored a goal apiece. Lambright and Eric Yankosky each recorded an assist.

“Exciting to see our guys building momentum for the season,” stated Wawasee head coach Jordan Sharp. “Plenty of goals in the first few games, exciting to see how far we can take this team. Really proud of the guys for not allowing any goals in the second half. The team is gelling well and can go far this year.”

South Bend Riley took the JV game with a 3-1 result over Wawasee. Jace Mishler scored the Wawasee goal, assisted by Dillon Drake.

Wawasee (2-0) will test its mettle Saturday when it visits Northern Lakes Conference powerhouse Concord.

Boys Tennis

Wawasee opened the Northern Lakes Conference tennis slate with a 5-0 loss to Plymouth Thursday afternoon.

The Warriors managed just seven games in its singles courts, and were straight set losses in all five matchups. Wawasee’s closest match came at two doubles, where Evan Richey and Brady Robinson lost 6-4, 6-2.

The Plymouth JV also commanded Wawasee in a win on all four courts.

Wawasee (0-3, 0-1 NLC) will go to work again Tuesday at Central Noble.

Volleyball

Wawasee held its first home match of the season Thursday, and were handed its second loss of the season in a 3-0 result against Fairfield.

Full scores and stats were not given from the match.

The JV game went to Wawasee in a 2-1 final. Ella Williamson had 25 digs, Molly Jones and Bethany Flannery combined for six aces and Kenzie Click had three kills.

Wawasee (0-2) will host Lakeland Monday.

Girls Golf

Wawasee earned another dual victory Thursday with a 189-240 win against Westview at Maxwelton.

Coach Steve Coverstone was looking for consistent scores, and got it with four scores in the 40s. Belle Brunner led the way with a 45, followed by Zoe White with a 47, Jadison Rostochak with a 48 and Tate Cowan with a 49.

Wawasee moves to 5-1 overall and will play again Saturday in the Rochester Invite.

Football

The Wawasee freshman team opened the football campaign with a 20-19 win over Goshen.

Niles Hodges had two rushing touchdowns, Parker Young had a rushing score and Daegan Kingrey paced the defense with a fumble recovery.

The Warriors (1-0) will meet Huntington North next Thursday.
