Max E. Sparks

Max E. Sparks, 90, Warsaw, formerly of Leesburg, died at 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, 2017, at Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing Home in Warsaw.

He was born Febr. 15, 1927 in Union Dale to Maynard and Dessie (Haiflich) Sparks. Max graduated from Etna Green High School and worked at Coppes Kitchen, Mutschler Brothers, Nappanee Wood Products, Heckaman Homes, and Miles Laboratory in Elkhart. He also worked as a farmer. Mr. Sparks was a World War II Veteran, serving in the US Navy over in Japan.

He attended Mt. Tabor Church of God in Nappanee. He married Wilma Krou on March 13, 1948 in Nappanee. She preceded him in death on Oct. 3, 2007.

Max is survived by his children: Barbara (Ronald) Taylor of Bremen; Beverly (David) Huffman of Leesburg; and Jim (Darlene) Sparks of Pierceton; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and sisters Marilyn (Craig) Hughes, Florida; and Carol Young of Bremen.

He was preceded in death by his wife Wilma, grandson, Daniel Huffman, brother Loyal Sparks and sister Doris Yoder.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18 until the 2 p.m. funeral service, all at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. John Schrock, from Harbor Light Hospice will officiate. Burial will follow at Bremen Cemetery, where there will be a military graveside.

Memorial contributions may be given to Harbor Light Hospice.
