WARSAW — Two Warsaw Police Department officers completed their probationary year and were promoted to full-time status. Mayor Joseph Thallemer administered the official oath of office to Jacob Metzger and Clayton Rieder at the board of works meeting held this morning, Aug. 4.

Metzger is from the Silver Lake area and served in the U.S. Coast Guard. Rieder formally served with the North Webster Police Department for four years. Warsaw Police Chief Scott Whitaker was present to welcome the men on board. After the oaths of office were taken, the officers were given an opportunity to take photographs with their families and board members.

Due to the increase in non-motorized patrol within the Warsaw Police Department, the department is doubling the amount requested for the 2018 non-motorist grant. This grant allows for officers to provide enforcement in the greenways, side paths and any pedestrian areas throughout the city. The enforcement is also utilized for First Fridays and the parks department events.

This grant will be applied for by the Winona Lake Police Department and the two departments will share the funding. The board approved applying for this grant.
