OAK BROOK, ILL. — TreeHouse Foods announced Thursday that it would be closing facilities in Plymouth as well as in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, as part of a restructuring plan.

The Plymouth facility has about 150 employees and produces banana peppers, jalapeños, pickles and pickle relish. In a press release, the company said production is expected to cease by the end of 2017.

“The decisions to close these facilities are difficult ones given their impact on families and communities,” said Sam K. Reed, Chairman and CEO of TreeHouse, in the release. “However, despite the toll they exact, these measures are required if we are to remain competitive in a rapidly changing marketplace for packaged foods. In order to win in today’s marketplace, we must not only produce the finest quality at the lowest costs, but also fully utilize the capacity of our plants and the capability of our people in doing so.”

The facility in Minnesota has about 90 employees and will cease production by the end of the year, as well. A third plant in Dothan, Alabama, will be stripped of all non-peanut packaging operations. That plant has 135 employees.

The press release indicated that TreeHouse will be providing outplacement support to all employees whose positions are being eliminated.
