Wawasee Golf: Warriors Middling At Huntington

HUNTINGTON – Wawasee finished right in the middle of the pack at Wednesday’s Huntington Girls Golf Invitational, taking seventh overall.
The Lady Warriors shot a 397 to finish in a jumble of teams in the middle of the pack. All were chasing Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger’s 319, the team champion on the day and a comfortable 41 shots better than runner-up and host Huntington North. Manchester was third at 365 and Concord was fourth at 372 among teams in the field.
Leading the way for Wawasee for the second straight day was Belle Brunner, who carded a 92 in her first-ever high school invite. Lesley Tayagua had a 101 and Zoe White and Ava Harter had 102s for the Syracuse squad, Harter’s score also her first-ever 18-hole tournament.
Manchester had it’s No. 1, Kelsey Eichenauer shoot an 85 to pace the club, Samantha Kissell two back at 87. Lydia Little had a 93 and Madyson Ulney and Cora Barnett both carded 100s. Eichenauer and Kissell were sixth and eighth, respectively, for the tournament.
Dwenger had four of the top five scores at the invite, led by Sarah Frazier’s two-over 73. Concord’s Elise Boessler fired an 80, then the Saints came marching in with Brooke Kinder at 81, Nicole Hagen at 82 and Taylor Martin at 83.
Wawasee will host Whitko and Concord Thursday at Maxwelton.
