MINNEAPOLIS — A school in Minneapolis collapsed Wednesday following an explosion and resulting fire, trapping multiple people in the rubble and leaving at least three unaccounted for.

At least one person is reported dead in the incident at Minnehaha Academy, though authorities have yet to confirm the fatality.

In a statement released Wednesday, Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton said the state was in touch with local authorities to assist in the response.

The state intends to “provide any and all resources necessary to aid first responders” and those affected by the blast, Dayton said.

The explosion was caused by a gas leak, school officials said, though the investigation is ongoing.

Crews are still on the scene, where helicopter footage shows flames and destruction.

According to the Minneapolis Fire Department, people are still trapped in the rubble.

Three people were rescued from the roof, according to The Associated Press.

Rescuers are were working to put out a fire in the building and searching for the three missing individuals who may be trapped in the rubble.

Minnehaha Academy is a Christian college prep school, serving students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.

Even though it is summer break, many students, teachers and coaches were at the school for sport programs, summer school and other activities.
