WARSAW — A Leesburg man pled guilty Wednesday, July 26, in Kosciusko County Superior Court to charges of possession of child pornography and child molestation.
Nicholas Colquitt, 18, 105 EMS T26 Lane, Leesburg, pled guilty to sexual misconduct with a minor, a level 5 felony; two counts of child molesting, level 4 felonies; and possession of child pornography, a level 5 felony.
Pursuant to the plea agreement, Colquitt will be required to register as a sex offender and will not have contact with the victims of his crimes.
Colquitt is slated to received his sentencing at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24.
After the plea hearing, Colquitt’s attorney Scott Lennox requested a bond reduction. Lennox stated the bond reduction would be to allow Colquitt get out of the Kosciusko County Jail to enter a treatment program at a facility for the duration of six to nine months. A condition of the bond reduction would require Colquitt to be immediately transported to the secured facility.
Lennox argued that Colquitt will not receive adequate treatment with the Indiana Department of Corrections when he executes time there. Lennox stated the treatment would help give understanding as to why the crimes occurred and teach Colquitt coping mechanisms.
Prosecutor Katy Hampton objected to the bond reduction. Hampton stated Colquitt will receive adequate treatment at the IDOC after sentencing. Hampton noted the facility Lennox referenced was directed towards children. Colquitt was 18 when he committed the crimes.
Judge David Cates said he would take the motion to reduce bond under advisement.
Colquitt’s charges stem from several incidents that occurred last year. On Oct. 5, 2016, Colquitt was first arrested after having sexual relations with a minor at Colquitt’s residence.
On Oct. 12, 2016, Colquitt received additional charges after police learned he had intercourse with a minor under the age of 14.
On Dec. 22, 2016, Colquitt was charged with possession of child pornography after officers found Dropbox accounts on his phone containing videos and pictures of underage children participating in sexual conduct.
