Marcia M. Stokes, 83, passed away Friday, July 14, 2017 at 7:05 a.m. in Grace Village Healthcare, Winona Lake.

She was born Jan. 23, 1934 in Warsaw, to Merritt and Eva (Becraft) Hartman and was a 1952 graduate of Warsaw High School.

In the fall of 1953 Marcia met Stanley Stokes. They married April 7, 1954. Except for the past four years of living in Winona Lake, she lived most of her life in Warsaw.

Marcia was employed by First National Bank as a bookkeeper during the mid-seventies and eighties. In 1983, while working at the bank, she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis which forced her to leave her job shortly after.

In the 1970’s she and Stan operated a miniature golf course (next to the YMCA and now the Baker Youth Club on Smith Street).

Marcia was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing Bridge and Bunco. She and Stan enjoyed ballroom dancing. Marcia was a devoted wife, good mom and a loving grandma. She loved her cat, Abby. She was a good cook. Marcia always said she had a wonderful life.

Those left with memories to cherish include Stan, her husband of 63 years; two daughters: Shari (Paul) Stokes Gores, Brookfield, Wisc.; Susan (Ken) Stokes Boothe, Dublin, Ohio; three grandchildren: Jared Gores, Mountain View, Calif.; Tom Gores, Sussex, Wisconsin; and Emily Grace Boothe, Dublin, Ohio; and brother: Allan (Lynn) Hartman, Plymouth.

Marcia was preceded in her passing by a daughter, Kathy Lee Stokes (August 5, 1957) and a sister, Beverly Fifer (August 27, 2015).

Friends will join the family for a time of remembrance Tuesday, July 18th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Titus Funeral Home. A celebration of Marcia’s life will follow beginning at 12 p.m. in the funeral home. Ernie Troxell, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church (Warsaw) will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

The family has asked that gifts in Marcia’s memory be directed to Trinity United Methodist Church, 832 E. Center Street, Warsaw, Indiana 46580 or National MS Society, 3500 DePauw Blvd. Suite 1040, Indianapolis, Indiana 46268.
