South Bend Announces Bike Share Program

SOUTH BEND — South Bend has announced the launch of a bike sharing program.
The city is partnering with LimeBike to provide the new transportation option, and they hope it encourages people to choose the healthier and more sustainable mode of travel.
According to LimeBike, traditional bike sharing services charge cities up to $5,000 per bike for the docking station and maintenance.
LimeBike’s dockless system will require no investment by South Bend.
The smart bikes will be offered around the city. Users can download the LimeBike app to find a nearby bike on the app’s map tool.
Bike rentals are $1 for 30 minutes.
More than 200 bikes are expected to be deployed during the first week, and the total number of bikes is expected to reach 500+ in the coming weeks.
