Fort Wayne Driver Located With Marijuana, Stolen Firearm In Winona Lake

WINONA LAKE — A Fort Wayne driver was pulled over for speeding in Winona Lake last October. The reporting officer discovered marijuana and a stolen firearm in the vehicle.

Kiara Rose Sims, 21, 9117 Ashton Pointe Boulevard, Fort Wayne, is being charged with theft, a level 6 felony; possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor; and operating while intoxicated, a class C misdemeanor.

On Oct. 22, 2016, an officer with the Winona Lake Police Department observed a speeding vehicle and conducted an traffic stop. Sims was identified as the driver of the vehicle. While speaking with Sims and the three passengers, the officer could smell an odor of marijuana. Sims advised that they had smoked marijuana earlier.

The officer then conducted a vehicle search. He located 1.2 grams of marijuana in Sims purse. In the trunk of the vehicle, the officer located an AR 15 rifle.

Sims was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital and her blood tested positive for marijuana.

The Allen County Sheriff’s Department advised that they received a report of a stolen firearm of the same model. Sims was the suspect in the theft report. The owner came to the Winona Lake Police Department and provided a receipt for the rifle and was able to properly identify it as being stolen by Sims.

A warrant was issued and Sims was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on June 28 with a $10,250 surety and cash bond.
