KOSCIUSKO COUNTY — Harold Jones, North Webster, who served on the Kosciusko County Council from 1990-2010 representing District 2, has filed for the at-large county council seat. A caucus at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, with precinct committeemen will be held to fill the seat, left by the death of Council President Bob Sanders.

Jones stated he filed to possibly bring expertise to the council which has several new members on the board. “I can bring my experience from 20 years before,” Jones said.

“I served with Bob Sanders,” said Jones, “I know what a loss it will be for the council. He was a tremendous asset. He worked tirelessly.” He also noted the resignation of Brad Tandy from the board was also a loss of experience.

“I enjoyed doing it, (serving on the council),” said Jones. Jones lost in the 2010 primary to retain his seat. He said looking at the current council members, led him to take the “opportunity to get back in and serve again.”

Jones’ family ran a grocery store in Leesburg for 40 years, selling the business in 2005. He and his wife, Lois, have been married for 54 years, have three sons and five grandchildren.

He is a member of Kosciusko Lodge 418, Milford: Yorkrite, Knight’s Temple, Elkhart; Mizpah Shrine, Fort Wayne; served 20 years on the Leesburg Fire Department and 10 years on the Leesburg Town Council. Jones has served 25 years as a precinct committeeman and three times as a delegate to the Republican state convention.

Jones was named the 1988 Leesburg Lions Man of the Year and in 2006 was inducted into the Kosciusko County Republican Hall of Fame. He is a charter member of CrimeStoppers. A 48-year resident of Kosciusko County, he served on the planning committee for the high school and Harrison and Eisenhower elementary schools.
