Connor and Sophia Miller were the first registrants for the “Build a Better World” summer reading program. Adults, teens & children are invited to register, read, and earn prizes.

I invite you to visit Warsaw Community Public Library this summer as we celebrate 100 years of service and to register for the library’s summer reading program, “Build a Better World” during the months of June and July.

Explore program activities at the library’s website, Facebook, or by calling (574) 267-6011. Mark your calendars for Friday, Aug. 4, for the Friends of the Library book sale from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and the library’s “Build a Better World” Library Block Party from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Check out summer reading program “challenges” and earn drawing tickets. Challenge yourself to read more books than ever before, to share your love of reading with others, or to learn something new daily. Encourage a child to talk, sing, read, write, and play every day this summer. Research shows these building “block” activities lead to habits that create future personal success.

A library card is not needed to participate in memorable summer reading program experiences. However, to check out library materials a valid library card is required.

Residents of the library service district support the library through property taxes. It is easy for residents to get a library card once they show proof that they live within the city limits of Warsaw and Wayne Township. Non-resident cards are available for purchase.

Also, Indiana law allows any student, in Kindergarten through 12th grade, enrolled in Warsaw Community Schools which encompasses Clay, Lake, Plain, Prairie and Wayne townships or could enroll but attends a private, parochial, or home school located in the same area, a free card. Enrolled students at a college located in the library district can also get a free card.

A big thanks to our “Build a Better World” summer reading program sponsors: Applebee’s, Bertsch Family Charitable Foundation, Culver’s, Fort Wayne TinCaps, Hansen’s Eastlake Skating Center, Igloo Ice Cream Shop, McDonald’s, North Pointe Cinemas, Pizza Hut, Ritter’s Frozen Custard, Subway, Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts, and Walmart.
