Pairings Set For Prep Baseball Regional Action

baseballThe pairings are set for a trio of area prep baseball teams headed to the regional round of the state tournament series this Saturday.

Whitko, fresh off its first-ever sectional title Monday, will head back to Wabash for a Class 2-A Regional. The No. 10 Wildcats (21-9) will meet Wapahani (16-11) in the second semifinal game. The 11 a.m. opener pits No. 1 Lafayette Central Catholic (29-3) versus Blackford (17-12).

The title game at Wabash is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday night.

NorthWood, which won its fifth straight Class 3-A Sectional Monday, will trek to the Class 3-A Bellmont Regional. The Panthers (24-1) play Fort Wayne Concordia (20-5) in the second semifinal matchup. The 11 a.m. opener pits Yorktown (16-11) against Norwell (15-7).

The championship contest at Bellmont is slated for 8 p.m. Saturday evening.

Penn, which won its fourth straight Class 4-A sectional crown at Elkhart Memorial Monday, heads to LaPorte. The Kingsmen (24-6) will face Lake Central (23-8) in the second semifinal contest. The opener at 11:30 a.m. ET (LaPorte is in the Central time zone) has host LaPorte (22-8) versus No. 6 Andrean (25-6).

The regional finale at LaPorte is set for an 8 p.m. (ET) start Saturday.

The champions from the regionals will play in the North Semistate at either Plymouth or Kokomo on June 10. The IHSAA will make those assignments on Sunday, June 4.
