Whitko Baseball: Wildcats Fall in 8 At Bellmont

DECATUR —Whitko’s baseball team lost a heartbreaker in eight innings at Bellmont Monday night, 3-2.
Michael Wetter singled in Austin O’Campo in the bottom of the eighth for the walk-off, and the Wildcats slipped to 19-8 on the year.
Whitko jumped on top with a run in the third when Alex Bechtold scored on a double steal, then pushed the advantage to 2-0 in the top of the fifth when Landon Goff scored on a sacrifice fly by Drew Bradford.
But Bellmont knotted it up with a pair of runs in the sixth as Brady Manis scored on a fielder’s choice groundout by Cam Voglewede, and O’Campo scored on an error at second.
Alex Robbins took the loss replacing Bradford in the eighth, giving up two hits while striking out one. Bradford lasted seven innings surrendering just two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts for two runs, neither earned.
Michael Wetter got the decision for Bellmont pitching the eighth, striking out two without allowing a hit or a walk. Wetter was the fourth pitcher to take the mound for the home team Monday.
Bechtold was 3 for 4 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored. Goff was 2 for 2 with a run and a stolen base for Whitko.
Bellmont moves to 5-15. The Wildcats host Central Noble tonight at 5 p.m.
